The project builds upon existing sub-regional convergence processes in Latin America aiming at the creation of EU-LAC Common Higher Education and Knowledge Area through fostering existing initiatives undertaken in 3 major LA regions: Andean, Mercosur and Mesoamerica (Central America and Mexico). Each region is led by a university association in collaboration with other higher education organisations from the region. The division of the scope of responsibilities and activities was driven by the existing partnerships, expertise and areas of interest.
The Mercosur Region covers Argentina, Brazil, Parguay and Uruguay and is led by the AUGM (Asociación de Universidades Grupo Montevideo) in collaboration with CIN, CRUB, Universidad Nacional de la República and Universidad Nacional de Asunción.
The partners will work jointly for the modernisation and internationalisation of higher education in the region through engaging in dialogues at national, regional and policy levels both within Latin American and Europe. This will be undertaken by organising analyses, workshops and conferences.
In the present project the Mercosur Region will focus primarily on the questions of academic mobility and internationalisation of higher education through the collection of existing expertise, sharing good practices and disseminating of findings.
