Project results

The cross-regional survey Transformaciones y reformas en la educacion superior de América Latina (September 2011 – September 2013) was a core activity of the Alfa PUENTES project conducted across the Latin American region. It provided comparable data on how universities are currently tackling teaching and learning, research, mobility and internationalisation, quality assurance, and governance/management. It also showed a comparative vision of major trends in LA higher education and the forces that influence them. Furthermore, the TRESAL aimed at gathering opinions regarding the importance of and advances in major topics concerning Latin American higher education over the past decade from the perspective of universities, their professors and students and evaluating the extent to which these changes have affected higher education. The results were expected to strengthen institutions, help build the Latin American Higher Education Area, and contribute to cooperation in education, culture and science between Latin America and Europe

The European associations involved in the project shared their expertise and best practices to promote good practices in higher education and research collaboration, to demonstrate sustainability measures that have resulted from existing collaboration programmes, and to identify existing possibilities to strengthen relations between the regions in the report on National and Institutional Strategies - European Higher Education Institutions' Collaboration with Latin America (in English).

University Associations in Latin America

A survey for Latin American university associations was carried out between October 2012 and August 2013 within the Alfa PUENTES project in order to complement the institutional TRESAL survey (Transformations and reforms in Latin American higher education) of the Alfa PUENTES project by exploring perceptions about higher education system development in Latin America, specifically from the perspective of university associations, obtain information about the role of university associations from the Alfa PUENTES project in their national and regional context, and in particular on their work areas and priorities, present the partners of the Alfa PUENTES project - their structures, tasks, similarities and differences-, and promote future cooperation between them and also with similar organisations in Europe.
